Core Mission of Student Affairs

Core Mission of Student Affairs

Under Mackay Medical University’s overarching development goal of health promotion, the core mission of the Office of Student Affairs is "to promote and maintain student wellness."

Wellness is defined as “the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.”

This concept emphasizes the active pursuit and cultivation of process and capacity, rather than the traditional notion of "health," which tends to focus on a single state and passive treatment after its loss. From the perspective of student affairs in a university setting, wellness can be divided into the following eight dimensions:

The campus implications covered by each dimension are as follows:
Wellness Dimension Campus Implications
身體(Physical) Health promotion, physical fitness enhancement, regular exercise, adequate sleep, balanced diet, respect for differences, disease prevention, emergency injury and illness response.
心理(Mental) Mental health promotion, psychological awareness, psychological counseling, comprehensive student support system, support networks.
情緒(Emotional) Social emotional learning, emotional expression, psychological resilience, positive discipline, emotional support, guidance-oriented reward and punishment.
社會(Social) Friendly campus, interpersonal relationships, sense of belonging, inclusive participation, service-learning, social responsibility and adaptability.
智能(Intellectual) Lifelong autonomous learning, critical thinking, logic and judgment, interdisciplinary learning, civic literacy.
靈性(Spiritual) Carrying forward the MacKay spirit, life education, character/moral education, meaning and value of existence, cultivating civic responsibility.
職涯(Occupational) Career development, career guidance, competency empowerment, equitable support.
環境(Environmental) Study support, scholarships and grants, communal spaces, campus safety, barrier-free campus, sustainable development, reasonable accommodations, housing safety.

Therefore, the essence of student affairs work is 'supporting the holistic conditions and capabilities that enable students to continuously develop their physical, mental, and overall quality of life.'

Simply put: our work is to help students live well and grow well.
